Hdac2 regulates the cardiac hypertrophic response by modulating Gsk3[beta] activity
Article Abstract:
Histone deacetylase-2 (Hdac2) has regulated expression of many fetal cardiac isoforms and Hdac2 deficiency or chemical histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition has attenuated cardiac hypertrophy in hearts exposed to hypertrophic stimuli. The results have indicated that Hdac2 is a vital molecular target of HDAC inhibitors in the heart and that Hdac2 and glycogen synthase kinase 3[beta] (Gsk3[beta]) are components of a regulatory pathway providing a therapeutic target for the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure.

Environmental awareness
Article Abstract:
Experiments of Beatrice Mintz and Karl Illmensee concluded that the tumour cells of mouse were developmentally totipotent and could revert to normal behavior in the appropriate environment. Similar experiments form the groundwork for the existing understanding that the environment in which cells are growing could influence the expression of the transformed phenotype.

Muscle disease: A giant feels the strain
Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates that titin, the largest protein which provides mechanical and structural support in striated muscles, controls gene expression in response to mechanical stretch. It is found that kinase-related pathway, linking contractile and nuclear gene expression systems, is one of several signaling mechanisms that appear to be associated with titin.
